Biographical Information
Skye Buckley was born on a small farm in Twatt, Scotland to Captain James Buckley and Catherine Buckley.
James Buckley was killed in 2409 at the onset of the Klingon War with the destruction of the U.S.S. Hartley. After his death, Skye began to become restless, and began tinkering with random things at the homestead, taking them apart and putting them back together. This culminated in her spending considerable time at her uncle’s repair shop in Kirkwall beginning at the age of twelve. By Fourteen, she lived almost entirely in Kirkwall, attending school there as well.
Skye showed an uncanny knack for building things from scratch, but her unorthodox approaches ended up simultaneously confusing and impressing her teachers.
She graduated from secondary school second in her class, and was offered several scholarships, including one from the Daystrom Institute, but ultimately declined, feeling that learning by the book was not for her.
Instead, Skye entered Starfleet academy at the tender age of sixteen, graduating at 21 and taking a position as a maintenance engineer on the U.S.S. Sirocco.
Conflict arose, however, between her unruly nature and her Vulcan shift supervisor, Lieutenant Sorel. This culminated in August of 2422, when amidst a firefight, Sorel ordered Buckley to maintain a position regulating the EPS grid, when the local relay ignited. Ensign Lianne Keller suffered major burns instantly, but Buckley abandoned her post and utilized the flame retardant properties of the Lilthanian razorfish Keller had been munching before the battle to extinguish it. The fish however left a gummy residue across the entire relay, which incidentally also prevented the EPS overload from causing a chain reaction to the warp core. However, it took three weeks to remove the fish residue from the relay. As a result, she received both a commendation from chief engineer for saving the ship, as well as a reprimand from her shift supervisor. The chief engineer changed her active shift, but she ultimately requested a transfer the next year to the U.S.S. Siva, where she felt an assignment as a field engineer would be less boring.
