Recorded herein are the full and complete logs recorded by Lieutenant S’Kyr T’Serel aboard the U.S.S. Dover.
Chief of Security’s log, Stardate 6893.4.
Acting Chief of Security S’Kyr T’Vella reporting.
They’re gone. They’re all gone.
Nine hours ago the Dover was pulled into a gravitic anomaly. I stood my post, ensuring the entire crew was evacuated, Captain included. It was… the logical thing to do. The only way to save the entire ship required rapid, disciplined calculations capable only to a Vulcan mind. I am the only Vulcan crewmember aboard, so it was necessary for me to remain. I was to be the last to transport off. I beamed to the nearest shuttle with 0.42 seconds from the completion of the transport window to the end of my safe transport window. I should have arrived on the shuttle with the captain.
For reasons I have been unable to fathom, I was returned to the ship. Gravitational anomalies have been disrupting structural integrity in various sectors for hours. I have reduced the ship’s shield radius to protect the bridge and critical systems, leaving the upper decks completely exposed. As I am uncertain where I am, and the ship is empty, it seems logical. There is no way of knowing how long the Dover will drift until we reach civilization again.
Yet Logic does not seem to yield any answers regarding my fate.
Chief of Security’s log, Stardate 6893.9.
Acting Chief of Security S’Kyr T’Vella reporting.
I keep going over and over it in my mind. The transportation sequence must have completed. There is no possible way for it to not have. Which means somewhere, T’Vella made it out. A T’Vella made it out, at least. Detailed analysis of the transporter logs indicated a multiplication of the matter stream. The buffer was only able to compensate for a short period, and it stored the second stream until the cycle was completed. Afterwards, failsafes caused the buffer to be expelled seconds after due to power loss.
The logical conclusion is that I am not T’Vella, but a duplicate.
The question I cannot seem to answer logically is, If I am not myself, who am I?
What am I?
Chief of Security’s log, Stardate 6899.9.
Acting Chief of Security S’Kyr T’Vella reporting.
Time. I have reached the conclusion that time is the adversary. In the last four days I have observed no shift in observable stellar phenomena whatsoever. The Dover continues to drift, but there are no stars. No nebulas, no anything. No chance of navigating. Shipboard chronometer ceased functioning the moment the ship’s movement ceased. I believe that whatever anomaly took hold of the Dover has taken us outside of normal time-space and deposited us in some form of inverted time bubble. We? I. There are no others, just me. Whoever I am.
I have reached the conclusion that I must find a way to return to time, lest I drift alone in endless purgatory until the end of… what, exactly? Time? Hah.
It is only the first part of the dual quandary I find myself in.
Chief of Security’s Log, Stardate 6900.1.
I have finished a program designed to extrapolate stardates from the moment time was lost aboard ship. I have no way of verifying its accuracy. Previous stardates in this log have been estimated based on relative observation of time as observed in the completion of tasks. The warp core remains stable, as does the structural integrity on the areas of the ship still covered by the shield. However, I have no way of guaranteeing this will remain the case. I have concluded that my only means of returning to time involves the ejection of the warp core. I believe that injecting the core with temporally affected matter extracted from the unsafe parts of the vessel may cause the warp core’s detonation to create a similar vortex to the one which has brought me out of time. Prior to ejection I will need to establish relativistic velocity, at precisely 9.999902% of the speed of light. The explosion should provide a shockwave hard enough to push the Dover through the vortex.
What I am most concerned about, most oddly, is what happens after.
Chief of Security’s Log, Stardate 6902.4
I have re-entered normal time-space, but not before the Dover suffered incredible damage. Whatever power I had is gone, and I have little choice but to drift in silence. Before I lost power, I observed multiple ships inbound on long range sensors. There is little left but to wait… and hope.
As for the second part of the quandary… if I am not T’Vella, and I must return to time… then I must adapt to the existence of another T’Vella. I must accept that my life is no longer my own. I must take another name, and I only hope that our mother can forgive me.
