A Community-Focused Upload Tool
To make sharing profile images such as character headshots or images of your ships on the forums easier (and to move away from relying on services such as Imgur), we’ve set up a dedicated image hosting service for the community:
https://img.storp.org/
This tool is designed specifically for Star Trek Online related images, be it for your RP profile, ship builds, screenshots, bug reports, and anything else directly tied to STO gameplay or discussion. It’s not intended as a general-purpose image host, but ultimately you can use it as you see fit, there are implemented methods to ensure your uploads remain secure.
How It Works
Quick uploads without an account
If you just need to share a screenshot in a hurry, you can upload an image without logging in. These temporary uploads stay online for 30 minutes, giving you time to drop the image into a chat message.
Persistent uploads with easy sign‑in
If you want your images to stick around, you can create an account using Discord or Google Single Sign-On. It’s fast, secure, and avoids the hassle of managing yet another password. You can still use a username and password if you wish, but I do not recommend it. Even after you’ve signed in, you can set uploads to delete after a customisable period.
Privacy & Safety
We know accidental uploads happen — a desktop screenshot, a personal photo, or something with sensitive metadata. To help protect users:
- All uploaded images have their EXIF data automatically stripped.
This includes GPS coordinates, device information, usernames, and other embedded metadata that could reveal personal details.
- No analytics or tracking data is added to images.
What you upload is what gets shared — just cleaner and safer.
Why We Set It Up
- Imgur has become increasingly unreliable for long-term hosting, and some countries such as the UK can no longer access it.
- While other alternatives to Imgur do exist, it’s fair to say that the setup used by Imgur “just works” and is far more intuitive than other hosts.
- Some external hosts compress images or block hotlinking
- We wanted a stable, community-run alternative that respects user privacy
The goal is to keep things simple, fast, and tailored to the needs of our community.
Final Notes
The STORP Image Host is here to make your forum experience smoother — not to replace full-featured image platforms. Please keep uploads STO-related, avoid personal content, and continue to report any issues or suggestions so we can improve the service over time.
If you have feedback or run into any hiccups, feel free to share them in the forums.
