Ship Name
The Aspero-class carrier was named after an ancient philosopher who had lived on Ferasa Prime centuries before Ferasan-Caitian split had occurred. Nez’rel’s historical existence is heavily disputed by modern Federation scholars. Many believe writings attributed to him were actually produced by philosophers who promoted ideas akin to the Age of Enlightenment of pre-warp Earth or late Surakian teachings in Vulcan post-Sundering period, so these teachings are often referred to as Nez’relian School of Thought. Regardless of historical arguments, Nez’rel is one of a few common points of origin and civilisational relations between two sibling species with a shared turbulent history, along with Caitian/Ferasan Naturalism beliefs which can be best described as a cross-section of Romulan Elements and Human concept of Gaia.
The ship itself, as its predecessors, have been intimately connected to one particular planet in Caitian Union - Macadarna, in the namesake system located in Eta Serpentis sector.
Predecessors
The first Nez’rel was a short-range Perseus-class escort, built in the famous M’Yengh Yards in orbit of Cait, 15 Lyncis star system, the species’ second homeworld and launched in 2278 as USS Nez’rel, NCC-1796. It remained in service until 2296, under its last commanding officer, Commander R’Rel Fahv.
The second vessel to be named was an Excelsior-class, also built in M’Yengh Yards, launched in 2302 under Captain R’Rel Fahv. This vessel remained in service the longest, mostly patrolling Eta Serpentis sector, as planet Macadarna was its home port. It served without interruption until its destruction during Dominion War in 2375, commanded by Captain T’Mir who previously served as XO under R’Rel.
The present-day Nez’rel was the first one to be built in Macadarna Orbital Shipyards and was launched in 2420, to commemorate 45th anniversary of its predecessor’s destruction.
