Amele: “Complete diversion, you say…” She herself bring out her tricorder and tools
Major Kelyn: steps to the aft wall, fingers tapping a supply locker’s control. With a soft hiss, the panel slides open to reveal neatly stacked ration packs and sealed water flasks. +
Ki’lana: "Help? Sure, it’s very unlikely we’ll be able to solve the problem from in here, after all if the station were being invaded what do you think would happen if all the stuff that makes the <c>
Major Kelyn: If Anyone has need, there are provisions here.
Lani: ’s eyes start to trail along the wall where the power lines are, trying to spot any signs of interference from the inside..
Lani: If something is causing the power to divert, you’d need to get into the conduits.
Major Kelyn: goes to hand the anxious Bolian a bottle of water
Brex: This situation, not normal.
Ki’lana: …Stuff work was readily accessible. Not a bad idea really… And I didn’t say it was a complete diversion, just that it might be. I mean what I’d appreciate is finding out the source of the <c>
Darve: tenatively accepts it and opens it and chugs most, but not all of it down.
Grover Swerdlow: nodded and responded laconically: “I see.” He then stepped aside, suggesting the Commander join the two engineers.
Ki’lana: …Power fault."
Brex: But… it’s an old station.
Ki’lana: “So like I said it might be something is taking up too much power, maybe it’s not getting ENOUGH power.”
Major Kelyn: speaks up upon hearing bits of the discussion near the airlock gate
Brex: nods and walks towards the airlock proper “Hello, looks like we’re the Engineering group?”
Grover Swerdlow: “Was the old software broken?”
Amele: “Well, only one thing left to do.. to get my hands dirty and into the conduits.” She nod, in a sligtly excited tone: the idea to do engineering really please her, a lot
Major Kelyn: Maybe we can ask Ops to pipe down some higher functions to this console back here?
Major Kelyn: See if it might help us to help them?
Grover Swerdlow: stepped aside to allow the engineers to discuss, his question was one of curiosity, not necessity. Patience was a virtue at times such as these.
Ki’lana: “Well it is worth a shot at least asking ops to at least divert power or shut down non-essential systems.”
Ki’lana: “It might also be…”
Ki’lana: taps her combadge. “Narev to Ops, are you still capable of running a scan for abnormal power usage, and did we update our systems today?”
Ki’lana: “You’d be shocked how often ‘updated systems’ and ‘outdated hardware’ turns out to be a problem.”
Amele: Patiently, Amélé seek the conduit Brex previously used. She prepare herself to get in, and roll up her sleeves…
Major Kelyn: | =C= Ops here. Apologies for the delay in comms. We are prioritising responses across the station. I trust everyone with you is okay? ++
Darve: sighs and chuckles nervously. “Surely we’ll get out of here soon, right? Assasination plot or not I do have places to be.”
Lani: Prioritising-..Just how many problems are there around here?
Major Kelyn: | =C= We are still able to run limited scans, Narev. We have teams heading to the runabouts to use their systems, but their climbing through accessways to reach them. It will take time. ++
Major Kelyn: | =C= Abnormal energy draws are confirmed, but the source is not yet clear. As for updates… no new patches have been applied in the last cycle. =C=
Lani: starts to drum upon her armored leg in irritation at the constant delays.
Major Kelyn: moves to the Bolian and says “yes, we will get out shortly… we just need to give them the time they need to fix this… tell me, what’s your favourite drink?”
Ki’lana: “Well so much for that idea, we’re going to look into the problem while we’re here, see if we can’t give the engineers a head start on what to look for, Narev out.”
Grover Swerdlow: “This is incredible..”
Ki’lana: “It could be worse.”
Brex: smirks slightly “We’ve not the Cardassian zenith or something, have we?” he smiles slightly across to Lani
Lani: Yes. There could be a Vedek in here. Still, how do you propose to look for the cause in here?
Darve: “I am quite partial to meridor, as it happens.”
Lani: The conduits are in the walls..
Ki’lana: “Hey Vedeks are fine, no, what would be worse is a betazoid with Zanthi fever. If you don’t know what that is, I envy you.”
Major Kelyn: | Beyond the sealed airlock, the promenade’s glow falters. The tall arcs of light overhead gutter once, twice, then fade to black, leaving only the scattered gleam of shopfronts.
Ki’lana: “I swear if it’s Quark…”
Major Kelyn: | A wave of startled voices can be heard beyond, faintly, as the crowd out there break into motion. Traders clutching goods, civilians calling to one another, officers trying to steady the flow
Major Kelyn: |… all scatter into shadow.
Darve: slowly makes his way back to the airlock, perhaps if only to keep tabs on the group.
Lani: ..I think your secondary backups failed.
Grover Swerdlow: “…The Federation’s victory was nothing short of miraculous, if this is the state of the station..”
Major Kelyn: | Yet in the corridor, the deck beneath everyone’s boots still hums. Power remains steady in the station itself; it is only the promenade’s great lights that have gone dark.
Brex: The tertiaries should kick in shortly…
Major Kelyn: rejoins the group
Lani: Did you replace the hull plating of the station with backups?
Major Kelyn: Any progress?
Ki’lana: “Backups for the hull plating…”
Ki’lana: “We call that ablative plating.”
Grover Swerdlow: began to turn a shade redder. It was as if the failure was his own.
Major Kelyn: Perhaps they are attempting localised restarts? Why else would we still have power but out there it looks dark?
Ki’lana: “Selective unplugging and plugging back in again, well it’s not elegant.”
Lani: Maybe you can roll this airlock door out of the way…
Ki’lana: “Oh by all means King Slathis.”
Brex: I would hope the seals would hold
Darve: looks at the major, noting the rank insignia. “I do apologize for the unideal first impression, Major, I am Darve, proprietor of Big Blue Deals.”
Brex: grins “Or if we had a giant Gorn.”
Major Kelyn: ' gaze sweeps over the gathering, the flicker of dim corridor light catching on each face. It strikes her what an unlikely assembly this is.
Lani: Pfsh - Very funny, kitten. Just ideas - Either that or someone might need to bring out a card came as we’re going to be here a while.
Major Kelyn: What if the mechanism partially engaged to move before the energy was… affected? Might the seals still hold?
Ki’lana: “Don’t tell me that’s the best jab you’ve got, some people say kitten to flirt.”
Ki’lana: “Joking aside, like I said..”
Amele: “I do not have a card games.. deeply sorry.”
Brex: If it was already moving, the seals should’ve disengaged, but since the other door is open, the emergency override might’ve kicked in.
Major Kelyn: crosses the short distance to the captain she admonished earlier (Grover), her stance composed, but with humility she says "Sir… I owe you an apology. I should not have spoken out of line earlier
Ki’lana: "It’s unlikely we’re going to be able to actually fix the problem from the inside, it’d be too easy to override if the station were boarded or if someone tried leaving <c>
Ki’lana: …Without the station’s say so."
Brex: braces against the door to see if it shows any signs of nudging.
Grover Swerdlow: remained silent as he listened to the gathering of three engineers and a Cardassian. Now he just about had it, pulling up a PADD and beginning to begrudgingly type something. He stopped to look >
Amele: nod to Ki’lane, with a smile.
Lani: To be fair, King Slathis wasn’t a great one either. …He wouldnt wear a dress half as well.
Ki’lana: “It’s good thinking honestly, bad for anyone who might be trapped inside though, probably by design.”
Amele: “Some risks are unavoidable..”
Brex: Unngh, probably better you get trapped inside then venting the entire Promenade to space if there’s a fault.
Grover Swerdlow: > at the Bajoran Major who came to apologize with a stony look, however it seems that he had calmed down a little bit. “Noted.” He nodded, then glanced at the big Bolian. “Not that you were wrong.”
Brex: rocks against the door with his shoulder a few times.
Major Kelyn: Thank you Captain (Grover)
Ki’lana: “Well what’s life without a few risks? Or a few annoying speedbumps?”
Brex: Easier for us, I imagine, Chief!
Ki’lana: gives the door behind her a rough kick of her boot.
Lani: If only that’d open it~
Darve: “My fellow attendants of the airlock, Drinks are on at Quark’s if we make it through this.”
Darve: ((on me*))
Major Kelyn: | As the Bolian engineer slams his shoulder into the door, nothing happens… However, as if by coincidence, for a heartbeat, the amber lights flicker green, a surge humming through the frame.+
Grover Swerdlow: raised a brow at the generous Bolian, pocketing his PADD silently.
Ki’lana: flicks an ear.]
Major Kelyn: | The airlock parts just enough to spill a sliver of re-activated promenade light inside, a glimpse of figures beyond. Enough to stick one’s head outside for fresh air.
Major Kelyn: | Then, as suddenly as it came, the power sputters. The panels go dark, the door grinding to a halt. Outside, the promenade’s lights die again, leaving only the murmur of scared people beyond.
Amele: “Dear Bolian, what is your name? I accept your proposition. We will also play Dabo, if you wish.”
Amele: nod again to Ki’lana. She approve a life with a few risks!
Darve: “Darve, the humble proprietor of Big Blue Deals.”
Amele: “A pleasure to meet you, Darve!”
Brex: almost loses his balance at the sudden lurch and near immediate stop, catching himself against the frame “We got somewhere.”
Lani: Well, at least we’ve got air!
Major Kelyn: notes the much changed form of the Bolian… glad they are at least on the up.
Lani: throws her hands up in a fake cheer. "Wooo~''
Darve: “Hm, Yes, I do apologize for my…panicked state earlier.”
Major Kelyn: What did you do? she asks the Bolian engineer
Major Kelyn: You moved it!
Brex: flexes.
Ki’lana: “Hey panic beats any tellerite coming across a minor inconvienance.”
Amele: “Brute force, may I say.”
Ki’lana: “I hate how often that works, but when it works it works. Don’t rely on it.”
Grover Swerdlow: turned to see the engineers managing to slightly open the airlock. What arcane marvel they achieved. “Perhaps more force is warranted, then?”
Brex: Yes, that’s probably caused more problems for the engineers going forward in fairness.
Amele: “Apologizes more than accepted, I understand your reactions..”
Brex: Airlocks are definitely not designed to work like this!
Darve: “Now that I can think clearly, shall I call my vessel for help?”
Ki’lana: “Yeah, guess who fixes it later, Commander?”
Brex: You’re welcome for the overtime Chief.
Major Kelyn: You… You had a vessel in orbit all this time? she looks to Darve
Brex: gives Ki’lana a small wink “I’ll stick around to help.”
Lani: Perhaps if the Chief kicks it a few more times it’'l open completely.
Major Kelyn: | Through the narrow gap in the door, the shape of a uniformed officer appears, lit dimly by the failing glow of a nearby shopfront. She leans close, voice carrying through the opening. +
Ki’lana: “I’ll accept payments in latinum, i’ve relied too much on being the only one bothering to keep Quark’s replicators working.”
Ki’lana: “And he’s starting to get upset with it.”
Darve: “The thought has only now occurred to me.”
Grover Swerdlow: once again crossed his arms, content with listening to the group discuss payments and duties.
Ki’lana: “Yes a ship would have simplified this considerably. Assuming it can lock onto us.”
Major Kelyn: | The officers asks “Are you all alright? We have an update. An energy cloud has enveloped parts of the station, readings suggest it emerged from the wormhole Ops is preparing a dipolarising blast to break it up”
Ki’lana: “Ah don’t look at me like that Captain, you know synthale doesn’t hold a candle to the real thing.”
Amele: smile. “Accepted..”
Darve: “We are…eager to exit this enclosed space.” Darve replied to the uniform beyond the airlock.
Grover Swerdlow: “When I thought of Deep Space Nine, I did not imagine this.”
Grover Swerdlow: “That’s all I’ll say.”
Ki’lana: “Welcome to Deep Space Nine Captain, wipe your feet.”
Brex: It’s no Starbase 80 that’s for sure
Ki’lana: “Hah! That’s the frontier for you.”
Major Kelyn: | The officer outside nods, “I understand… but until Ops completes the dipolarising blast and clears us for a full restart, there is nothing we can do. I’m sorry”
Amele: “A little adventure! Anything beat Starbase 80. Anything.”
Major Kelyn: turns to Darve upon hearing the officer, and asks “If your ship can get us out of here, can you please try Darve?”
Lani: Speak for yourself…This station’s siblings work just fine, it seems to be “Nine” that is always on the fritz.
Darve: brings out his flip-communicator from his messenger bag once again.
Brex: looks to Lani “The Nor’s or the Deep Space’s?”
Major Kelyn: can’t help but raise an eyebrow at the Cardassian’s comment
Major Kelyn: She means the Nors of course
Amele: Yes!
Amele: agrees with Lani.
Ki’lana: “Your other stations also aren’t a mix of Cardassian and Starfleet technology, you know how old the Cardassian operating systems are on average?”
Darve: hails his ship, trying to see if transporters would be operational.
Grover Swerdlow: “K-7 is different.”
Darve: “This cloud thing might limit how much the Pecos can help us.”
Lani: I know they work better when not mixed with alien technology. Failures like this must happen all the time? At least..That’s what I’m hearing from the banter from all the officers~
Brex: Not… all… the time.
Brex: Hey at least DS9 isn’t haunted.
Grover Swerdlow: “When processes aren’t rushed, they have a better success rate.”
Ki’lana: “Well it might be haunted by a few hundred voles i’ve shot.”
Ki’lana: “Anyway.. That’s the thing about Cardassian technology, sure it’s reliable but it’s outdated and really doesn’t play nice with anything else.”
Amele: glance toward Lani “I’ll be curious to learn more about your technology from your point of view.”
Lani: Awh - That’s a bit catty of you, did I offend an engineer’s pride?
Lani: If it makes you feel any better, I’d say it’s a miracle the station is still spaceworthy at all.
Amele: “Not offend at all, you sparked my curiosity to learn.”
Ki’lana: “Not nearly as much as a miracle that you’ve come up with worse insults than a Keremma.”
Major Kelyn: Let us be clear… this station was raised by Bajoran hands. I would hope no one is suggesting that is why we face these issues now. she says while looking dead straight at the Cardassian
Ki’lana: “Come on, I’ve said worse to my mom.”
Grover Swerdlow: | Suddenly, Captain Swerdlow’s combadge began
Brex: looks to Lani “So I take it you’re not an engineer then?”
Lani: Despite the reputation of Cardassian women, I chose a military career, and not in engineering.
Major Kelyn: | Without warning, the corridor plunges into total darkness. The deck’s hum fades as well, lights gutter out everwhere and there is silence. Even the faint glow of the airlock panel dies. +
Brex: Hm.
Major Kelyn: | For a long breath, the station feels like a hollow shell adrift in space. Then, somewhere distant, the vibration of massive emitters shudders through the hull… ++
Brex: This could be a problem.
Major Kelyn: | Ops has cut all power, preparing the dipolarising beam. The air tastes metallic, charged, as if the very bulkheads are waiting for the strike that might scatter the anomaly clinging to the station.
Ki’lana: “They might have overloaded something for a second, wait 10 seconds, if it’s still down, worry.”
Darve: “I reserve the right to start panicking again…my medication can only do so much.”
Ki’lana: “Or you know, they need all the power than can get.”
Brex: is just glad gravity plating is more of an essential system than lighting and air.
Grover Swerdlow: “The victory truly was a miracle..”
Amele: “Oh, that pleasant smell…”
Major Kelyn: reaches out to Darve with her hand. She tries to see if he wants to hold it for comfort, but she doesn’t force it.
Grover Swerdlow: The victory truly was a miracle..
Lani: cant help but roll her eyes at Ki’ana’'s cattiness, exhaling. “Because only one of us is trading insults! It’s genuinely a miracle anyone can get technologies from two cultures to work together.”
Lani: It’s admirable. We probably would have torn a Federation station down to build our own and save the hassle.
Brex: I do have fond memories of here… but, that does make sense.
Darve: looks at the hand, more surprised and confused than anything. He motions as if he were to reach for the major’s hand, but doesn’t.
Ki’lana: “Hey you should have seen the reports from 30 years ago.”
Major Kelyn: | The promenade beyond springs back to life first in patches… first the shopfronts, then the tall arches overhead. Voices rise in relief as civilians regroup, security officers guiding them +
Major Kelyn: | back into order. The airlock at last groans open, its seals releasing with a hiss. Fresh light spills into the corridor, carrying with it the hum of restored power and the faint chatter +
Major Kelyn: | of the crowd outside.
Major Kelyn: steps back from the doorway allowing the others to exit first, her gaze sweeping the group before motioning them onward.
Darve: bolts for the outside, man can he move under pressure.
Lani: beams warmly and jabs a finger at the airlock.
Lani: Well it seems someone got their tertiary backups working.
Brex: Oh har har.
Major Kelyn: It seems Ops has done their work.
Ki’lana: cracks her neck. “Weeeelll.. That was time consuming.”
Major Kelyn: | =C= Attention all personnel and visitors. The energy anomaly from the wormhole has been dispersed. Power and life support are now restored stationwide. Normal operations are resuming. Please follow routine procedures. We apologise for the delay. Ops Out =C=
Lani: And here I thought we might be there all night!
Darve: “offer’s still good on that round at Quark’s, if you’ve got no other pressing matters.”
Darve: takes a deep breath, it was the same air but it felt much crisper on the other side of tha airlock.
Ki’lana: “Well.. Technically I should be looking at the door, especially since I reported it.”
Major Kelyn: | As swiftly as circumstance had bound them, the group began to scatter. A few lingered with backward glances, some exchanged quiet nods, and more than one made straight for Quark’s lured by Darve’s earlier promise of a drink.
